COVID-19 (coronavirus). Message from Allan Mowatt, Chairman.
I am sorry to inform you that as a result of the spread of the Coronavirus, and its particular risk to the elderly, the Committee has taken the decision to cancel the next three meetings including the AGM, and also the visit to the Fan Museum. I understand how this will cause some upset, but you will realise that this is quite beyond our control and our priority has to be the well-being of all our members. The majority of our membership is over 70 years of age, and as such is the most vulnerable section of the population.
At the AGM, I had intended proposing an increase to our subscriptions – which have remained unchanged for a number of years, at a time when the costs of Lecturers’ fees have risen considerably (hence our reliance on the raffle each month). The one silver lining in this period of difficulty is that the costs we save now, mean that we can avoid any increase in subscription for the foreseeable future.
If you know of any members who do not use the internet, I would ask you to make them aware of what has transpired.
I wish you well over the coming period and look forward to seeing you again in the autumn, when we have another programme of outstanding speakers lined up, including one or two from the cancelled lectures originally due over the next three months.
With best wishes
Allan Mowatt – Chairman
The committee will be monitoring and following Government advice. Daily changes to this advice can be found at this link, which you can copy and paste into your browser. Our website will also now contain a Stop Press link, which will give up to date information on any changes we as a Society may have to make.
